When planning your trip to Cancun or the Riviera Maya during this Halloween season, you should know that you are in for a treat (or a trick?). Halloween is not Dia de Muertos

First of all, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, Halloween and Dia de Muertos are two different things that are celebrated on different days. The Day of the Dead, in English, was celebrated on the day November 1 and 2 it is not another version of Halloween, which is celebrated on the day October 31. You may already know this, but just in case.

Halloween is an American celebration, it’s all about candy and costumes, while Day of the Dead is an ancient tradition in Mexican culture that celebrates the death and life of loved ones who have died.

The origin of the cempasúchil flower

We all know them by the name of “Cempasúchil” O “Flower of Death”but in reality its name province of Nahuatl “Sempôwalxôchitl” O “Cempohualxochitl”where “sempôwal” significant twenty or many y “xôchitl” that blooms, named after the legend of “Xóchitl and Huitzilin”. The cempasúchil flower blooms after the rainy season between July and November. Properties and benefits of cempasúchil

This flower, in addition to being a decoration for our altars and homes, has also been used to give color to textiles and food, to make insecticides, perfumes and even as medicine.

A legend tells that a long time ago there were two children Xóchitl and Huitzilin who knew each other from birth, played and grew together. Over the years their love flourished and with the blessing of the God of the Sun, Tonatiuh, they got married.

Unfortunately this union did not last long, since Huitzilin started the war, where he fell on the battlefield. Soon after Xóchitl found out that his beloved had fallen, devastated by the news Xóchitl decided to climb the mountain to implore Tonatiuh to allow him to see his husband.

Afflicted by the misfortune, the God of the Sun granted Xóchitl his request, transforming Xóchitl into a flower, which cast a light during the nights. Lower California

The Baja California peninsula spans 760 miles from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas. Living in Southern California, I’ve traveled to Baja California on several occasions, including spending a few weeks driving the entire peninsula.

Baja California is a popular region to visit in the winter, when the weather starts to get colder in the United States and Canada.

There is a lot of ground to cover in Baja California, so I recommend setting aside two weeks if you plan to drive the entire route. If you are short on time, focus your travel planning on certain areas such as Northern Baixa Baixa or Southern Baixa Baixa.

Tulum

When it comes to Tulum, people either love it or hate it. We spent a few days visiting Tulum on our Yucatan road trip and really enjoyed our time here. But this city is a bit commercialized, so it’s not as authentic as visiting other places in Mexico.

Tulum is best known for boutique hotels, top-rated restaurants, eclectic shops, beachfront bars, and the Tulum Historic Archeological Zone.

High school

Bacalar is a bit under the radar for international visitors, but it really is one of the most beautiful destinations in Mexico. Bacalar is not easy to get to: it is located near the border with Belize, about 2.5 hours south of Tulum. But if you can get out here, you’ll be amazed by the Bacalar lagoon, known for its mesmerizing turquoise hues.

Highway 307

Looking for a Mexico road trip that’s a little more off the grid? Highway 307 is one of the most rugged yet beautiful routes in Mexico that is known for its stunning waterfalls, blue lakes, historic ruins, and turquoise rivers surrounded by lush, dense jungle. The more you drive on this route, the more you will fall in love with the natural scenery here!

Route 307 starts in San Cristóbal de las Casas and descends into Guatemala in a loop before ending in Palenque. If you want, you can even cross into Guatemala for a day or two before continuing your road trip through Mexico.

Lagunas de Montebello National Park

This National Park is one of the most beautiful attractions in southern Mexico that is located on the border with Guatemala. Here you can visit 59 lakes known for their stunning deep blue color.

Here, you can take hiking trails overlooking colorful lakes or sign up for a boat tour that takes you to remote islands in the middle of these lakes. There are several major lakes that you can visit here with varying amenities and accessibility.

Yaxchilan

One of my favorite stops on Route 307 was the ruins of Yaxchilán hidden deep in the jungle. You can only visit these ancient Mayan ruins by signing up for a guided river tour that takes you to this remote location; book a visit here.

This whole adventure will make you feel like you’re in an Indiana Jones movie! During this tour, you will be able to see crocodiles, howler monkeys, giant lizards and several species of birds that reside in the jungle.

Blue water

The Agua Azul waterfall is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Mexico. This attraction consists of a stunning blue river, waterfalls and swimming areas.

At this location, visitors can also camp overnight, grab food at one of the many food stalls, and browse the souvenir stalls. There are multiple impressive viewing platforms to enjoy the views of this blue river and waterfalls.

We spent 6 months traveling in Mexico and for the most part felt safe during our trip. We tried to avoid the big cities and stuck to beach or jungle destinations that were more relaxed and much less crowded.

Here are some tips for driving in Mexico:

• Don’t drive at night. It is much safer to travel during the day for many reasons. The roads in Mexico are not in the best condition, so driving at night puts you at risk of hitting a pothole, bumps (low speed) or getting stuck in the sand (which happened to us on several occasions ).
• Keep a copy of your driver’s license, passport, car insurance and car registration stored in a cloud in case they are lost or stolen.
• Pay the toll roads instead of taking the free roads. Yes, it will be so worth it! Freeways are in much better shape and faster than the free versions.
• Get local insurance. Local Mexico insurance is required if you plan to drive there, which you can easily get online.

Is driving in Mexico difficult?

While driving in Mexico isn’t as dangerous as you might think, it’s still very challenging, especially if you’re covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

The hardest thing about driving in Mexico is that you have to constantly pay attention to your surroundings because there is always a lot going on. Even if you follow all driving rules and laws, it doesn’t mean others will. It’s a bit of a ‘wild west’ when it comes to driving, so most international visitors are intimidated to drive there themselves.

While driving in Mexico, others will cut you off, honk and speed around you. You will have to watch out for motorbikes, cyclists, children running down the street, people crossing without warning, animals, dogs, cats, chickens… It goes without saying that driving in Mexico requires a lot of energy, of so we always prefer to travel slowly and enjoy the car while taking amazing road trips in Mexico.

A bus ride costs you 0.55 cents, in some cases these buses even have air conditioning which is much appreciated during the summer. But if you’re visiting during the fall-winter months, you can easily walk downtown Boulevard Kukulkan in the Hotel Zone and enjoy the views of the Nichupte lagoon.

Food in Cancun

Mexican food was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010 and it is so. For less than $3 you can have a full order of delicious Tacos Al Pastor from the nearest street stand (just look around the corner) or the Yucatecan delicacy known as Cochinita Pibil which you can have in tacos or in a torta (from good size). bread) that won’t cost you more than $1. There’s no shortage of activities to take part in in this part of Mexico, whether you’re traveling alone, with friends, or need something family-friendly. No matter what draws you to travel, Cancun has it all: from culturally rich experiences to ample opportunities for relaxation and a wild nightlife, you’re sure to have an unforgettable time.

The extended schedules and the launch of new routes mark a response to the increased demand for service to Mexican Airlines destinations. Following the pandemic, they are responding to growing American and Canadian demand for service to Cancun and other Riviera Maya destinations by expanding service options to many destinations in the country. With greater air access, airlines contribute to the boost arrivals of international tourists.

Over the past six months, a combination of major airlines and low-cost carriers in the United States and Canada have improved service schedules to different parts of Mexico through additional frequencies on existing routes and the launch of new services.

Non-stop growth

The expansion of inbound air transport to Mexico is aligned with the goal of the Mexican government’s comprehensive and long-term tourism plan to increase the number of international visitors. The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council predicts that in 2022 it will have 16 million tourists, the country ranks seventh as an international tourist destination according to the World Tourism Organization. Consequently, Cancun Airport is also classified as the leading airport in the country.

Among the airlines that increase flights are Delta Airlines. In recent months, the Atlanta-based company started new non-stop flights to destinations in Mexico like Acapulco, Merida and Ixtapa of Atlanta; Mazatlan of Salt Lake City; and Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Frontier Airlines, another carrier at the forefront of expanding service to Mexico, has announced plans to launch round-trip service between Denver and Guadalajara. The service will mark the eighth Mexican city to be served by Frontier. The four weekly flights to Guadalajara, scheduled to begin in December. 22, are part of Denver-based Frontier’s plans to increase its Mexican service by 30 percent during the peak winter holiday season; Frontier will add flight frequencies from Denver to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. Frontier announced that it will begin new nonstop service between San Diego and Cancun with a weekly flight starting in December. 16

One of the major airlines in the US, United Airlines has recurring flights from Chicago and Cancun. Altogether, United offers 16 routes between the United States and Mexico, with the exception of two seasonal routes, Denver-Mexico City and Denver-Ixtapa, which operate during the winter months. The new flights to Mexico are offered through United and the airline’s low-cost counterpart.

The base of Colorado US Airlines Border Airlines which claims to be the greenest in America and the best low budget air routes open to Cancun from both Tampa Florida and Houston Texas.

It includes the busiest seasonal flight services during the winter months American AirlinesRoundtrip flights to Cancun and weekly nonstop service from JFK to San Jose del Cabo in Mexico’s Baja California region. The legacy airline, which has been operating flights to the Mexico market since 1941, currently serves San Jose del Cabo with three daily flights from Dallas/Fort Worth, two daily flights from Los Angeles and three weekly flights from Chicago.

Other flight additions to existing routes include service to Alaska Airlines, which will extend its list of services to tourist cities in Mexico this fall with six more weekly flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco, increasing its capacity in Mexico by 22 percent. The company also plans to inaugurate nonstop services between Los Angeles and La Paz, San Francisco and Cancun, and Seattle and Cancunas well as between Portland and Oregon to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

Canadian airlines also fly over the skies of Mexico. Since Air Canada It added 25 more nonstop flights per week this winter between Canada and Mexico, and after Canada’s airport reopened after the pandemic, Cancun is seeing more and more Canadian travelers.

Flights to Cancun from Europe

Most airlines are not necessarily opening new routes to Cancun per se, but rather adding more flights to their very popular Cancun route. This will more than likely mean that the number of flights there from the Cancun airport will exceed the average of 500 per day that the airport has seen in recent months.

The routes that will include new flights to Cancun Condor Airlines‘Flight from Frankfurt to Cancun. The airline will add a fifth flight per week, from its usual 4. British airline TUI is adding flights from across the UK to Mexican beaches. The airline is expected to increase its flight frequency from London, Manchester, Glasgow and other prominent UK cities.

If you just want to go to the beach and relax on your own, it probably depends on where you’re staying. Chances are you want to go to a beach that isn’t too far away. Most people will stay between the Cozumel Ferry Dock and CTM Avenue. The beach is very accessible and you can find corners along this stretch.

What to do on the beach in Playa del Carmen

If you want to do something beyond swimming and sunbathing on the beach, there are things you can do. If you like something a little physical and you like peace and quiet, the Aloha Paddle Club is a great activity to get out on the water. You can check out their Facebook page here. You can go out with them in the morning and have a different view of Playa del Carmen.

If you want something like jet skiing, small catamaran ride, banana boat or parasailing, you can find it mainly on 28th Street and the beach where Mamitas Beach Club is located. Here you will find sellers. You can also find jet skis around CTM Avenue and the beach.

Clubs to go to at night

Clubs in Playa del Carmen usually start around 11:00 PM and go until about 3 or 4 AM. There are nightclubs with shows like Coco Bongo or nightclubs for dancing and taking selfies. Xel Ha snorkeling park

Xel Ha is one of our favorite places to visit. We never get tired of visiting here. Xel Ha is a cove where you can snorkel all day and have all your food and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) included. We recommend it for all ages. Everyone can enjoy the time here. This park is located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

Xel Ha is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and more at this inlet. This ecological park is located north of Tulum.

Xenotes Park

Xenotes Park is one of Xcaret’s projects. This park is designed to get people out of the hotel and into nature. You will visit a private area with 4 beautiful cenotes. In each there are activities such as swimming and ziplining. This is a good activity to do if you want to visit a more natural area and don’t mind getting wet while having a good time. We recommend this for couples and families. Perhaps best suited for families with children aged 10 to 17.

Visit the Mayan ruins

Visiting a Mayan ruin site is often at the top of many visitors’ bucket lists. There are several good ruins to choose from such as the famous Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. Search for transport (ferry)

Transportation is something that is often forgotten. Once you land at the Cancun airport, you’ll want to prepare your transportation and wait for it to take you to your hotel.

For this, check if your hotel has transport included in your reservation, most of the time it has an additional cost.

Beware of the taxis parked right outside the airport terminal who want to brag to you about using their services, they charge a lot more than a normal taxi would.

Uber and other similar services are not viable options as they are not allowed to provide services at the airport.

Get your travel insurance

It is not mandatory to have travel insurance to visit Cancun. Although Cancun is quite safe, purchasing travel medical insurance is always a good idea.

Travel insurance is not currently required throughout Mexico. However, travel insurance with medical coverage is required for visitors to Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit. This insurance aims to protect travelers from any unforeseen medical event, including those resulting from the contagion of COVID-19.

For those of you who don’t know what a Chedraui Select store is, it’s a grocery store but with luxury products and experience. For years there has been a Chedraui Select in Cancun in the Hotel Zone. The Aztecs, also known as Tenochcas or Mexicas, were a civilization that dominated the center-south of Mexico until the arrival of the conquistadors, in the XV century. Its territory includes what we know today as Mexico City, Veracruz, Puebla, Guerrero, Oaxaca, the coast of Chiapas, Hidalgo and part of Guatemala, with Tenochtitlán being the capital of the empire.

His language was Nahuatl, the same one that he imposed on the neighboring towns. His great power was linked to the control he exercised over the trade routes and the diversity of products in his different towns.

Like many civilizations in Mesoamerica, they had a very rich cosmovision, with rites and offerings to the different goddesses as central elements. Today we want to talk about the 10 most important Aztec gods, those deities that played a very specific role in the life of this pre-Hispanic people.

1. Huitzilopochtli: God of the sun and war

For the Mexicans, the supreme god; for the Aztecs, one of the most important deities. It was associated with gold, warriors and rulers. There are also scripts that are there, so you can create fantasies in the collective imagination like the Chupacabras, Nahuales, Huay Chivo, Chaneques and Aluxes… which I will talk about today.

It is said that when a large number of people think of something common until they give it a physical form, a tulpa is created, which is a Buddhist concept and how the appearances of these beings could be explained.

1.- Chicxulub Crater

2.- The Mayapán League

Long before Batman recruited his band of vigilantes, Ah Mekat Tutul Xiu, leader of the Tutul Xiúes managed to establish a relationship of peace and alliance between three of the most important Mayan cities in the Yucatecan lands. The Tutul Xiúes, the Itzaes and the Cocom were powerful and wise Mayan peoples who, united, came to control practically the entire Yucatán Peninsula and some areas of Central America.

Chichen Itza

• Perhaps the most famous of the Mayan archaeological sites due to its designation as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Chichén Itzá is proof of Mayan wisdom, of their astronomical and mathematical advances, as well as a great testimony to their way of life. Although different towns passed through its history, during the period of splendor of the League of Mayapán it was home to the Itzaes. Uxmal

Mayapán

• The city of Mayapán was the headquarters of the meetings of this league. During this period, it was home to the Cocoms, who brought with them a strong Toltec influence. The power of this city was such that when it dissolved the League of Mayapán and caused the flight of the Itzaes, they went on to govern the whole of the North of Yucatan and in their splendor reached a population of 12,000 inhabitants. Its nature as a seat and powerful city is visible in the distribution of its city and its buildings.

3.- Merida

Today, Mérida is the most important city in Yucatán. It is the capital of the state and has close to a million inhabitants. Merida, moreover, is one of the safest cities in all of America and multiple international events have been held there.

Historically it is equally relevant, because it was founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo and one hundred Spanish families on the site of an abandoned Mayan population. Hence, it became an important point for colonialism and over time its relevance has only been increasing. That is why today we can see its influences in architecture.

Later, already in independent Mexico, during the period of henequen’s heyday, known as the era of green gold, Mérida was an important headquarters in the production and work of this material. This allowed the enrichment of the zone and the progress that was reflected in its advances in public students, trams and other technologies of the time that were still foreign to other states of Mexico.

This period of prosperity was another of those that influenced the development of Mérida as we know it today. During the longest period, it is said that the “afrancesamiento” of the city, receiving strong French influences in its architecture and development, same as we can see today in iconic places of the city such as Paseo de Montejo.

Paseo de Montejo

• It is the most important avenue in Merida. Inspired by the French boulevards (especially the one on the Champs Elysées) and is surrounded by large trees, a chamelón and numerous roundabouts. 4.- Valladolid

One of the most important cities in Yucatan. Declared Pueblo Mágico in 2012, Valladolid is full of history in each of its convocations.

It was founded in 1543 (also by Francisco de Montejo) and appeared as a protagonist in a couple of historical events in Mexico. To begin with, it was an important point for the Mayan Indians during the caste war in 1848, but it was also here where the Rebellion of Valladolid took place (obviously) in 1910. Church of San Gervasio

• It is located in front of the park in the main square and today it is much admired by locals and tourists due to its characteristic architecture of the colony. After an unfortunate event known as “the crime of the mayors”, two characters took the church as a refuge while they were being chased by the town, which ended up finding them desecrating the church to end their lives. One of the busiest travel seasons we’ve seen in years is coming to a close, but not without a strong finish. Almost every holiday this summer has set travel records, and we expect Labor Day 2022 to be no different.

TripIt analyzed US-origin flight, rental car, lodging and vacation rental bookings on TripIt for Labor Day weekend 2022 and compared the results to the equivalent booking period in 2021.

We found that despite the reported chaos, Americans are still taking to the roads and skies for one last getaway before fall. Once again, international travel continues to deliver the strongest performance, with bookings down 20% from 2019 levels. Even with unprecedented heat, airport passenger limits and heavy reports of lost bags , it seems that nothing will deter Americans from their love of going abroad.

Meanwhile, domestic travel by both air and car should not be ignored as they also show a strong increase compared to last year.

More than a third of travelers went abroad for Labor Day

U.S. airports will see the biggest crowds on Thursday, September 1 and Friday, September 2, with Atlanta, Boston, Denver and Dallas Forth Worth in the top 10.

And while almost every state is experiencing intense heat this summer, it still seems like Americans want to soak up as much sun and fresh air as possible, with destinations like Orlando (#4), Los Angeles (#5), San Diego (#5). #13) and Fort Lauderdale (#17) all making climbs into the top 25 list.

Lodging trends: City hopping and longer stays

While most of the top 25 list for hotel bookings remains the same, there are some new additions to the list, including Columbus, OH (No. 18), which rose 78 spots, Pittsburgh, PA (n.
