What better beach than one of the most recognized places in the country: Cancun, Riviera Maya and Isla Mujeres? Here we have listed a few things for you to start planning your vacation to make your vacation a reality!
Book flights
First, flights and hotels. These two almost come together. If you want to spend the holidays in Cancun or Riviera Maya, you still have time. Of course, the prices are not what they were a few months ago, but you can still book very good deals.
You can check one of our previous articles on How to get cheap flights to Cancun.
Pick your dates and try to book your tickets as soon as possible, as prices can change dramatically with only a couple of months of holiday left.
Be sure to check your flight time and dates, as your vacation planning depends on it (transportation, accommodation, activities).
Book Hotel
If you’re one of those people who likes to book your accommodation before you book a flight, I guess it’s because you already know which hotel you want to stay at.

Search for transport (ferry)
Transportation is something that is often forgotten. Once you land at the Cancun airport, you’ll want to prepare your transportation and wait for it to take you to your hotel.
For this, check if your hotel has transport included in your reservation, most of the time it has an additional cost.
Beware of the taxis parked right outside the airport terminal who want to brag to you about using their services, they charge a lot more than a normal taxi would.
Uber and other similar services are not viable options as they are not allowed to provide services at the airport.
Private transport from Cancun International Airport is also a safe and affordable option. Our partner Transportation to Cancun airport has services to all destinations in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
If you’re traveling to one of the islands like Isla Mujeres or Cozumel, keep in mind that you’ll need to book ferry tickets and time your flights so that you arrive at the pier on time.
Book guided tours
The holidays aren’t necessarily high season, but they sure do draw a lot of people to the all-inclusive resort. With that in mind, the only reasons you might want to leave your hotel will be to hike and explore the natural and historical surroundings.
Some great tours to do on your Cancun vacation include:
Visit an archaeological site: San Miguelito in Cancun, Chichen Itza, Tulum, Cobá and Ek Balam are just a few options for a day trip that will make your vacation different and unforgettable.
Do some water activities: Snorkeling in the Riviera Maya, paddle boarding, jet skiing and many more are available all year round and there is no better place to do these activities than in these turquoise waters!
Explore the eco-parks: Grupo Xcaret, Selvatica and Crococun parks are also good options to visit with the family or if you’re traveling with a party. Everyone will fall in love with the flora and fauna and of course the Mayan culture that surrounds it all.

Get your travel insurance
It is not mandatory to have travel insurance to visit Cancun. Although Cancun is quite safe, purchasing travel medical insurance is always a good idea.
Travel insurance is not currently required throughout Mexico. However, travel insurance with medical coverage is required for visitors to Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit. This insurance aims to protect travelers from any unforeseen medical event, including those resulting from the contagion of COVID-19.
What to pack for vacation?
In addition to everything you would regularly do for your beach vacation, here’s a list of things you should consider bringing when you’re at the beach on vacation:
- Pack a special outfit. Some pack to kill, others just want to wear bathing suits all day, but having a nice outfit can be a good idea for that special holiday dinner or if you’re going out.
- Biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent. Others are not allowed on most tours.
- Your own water glass or bottle. All-inclusive resorts encourage this so you can have a better experience when ordering drinks without having to waste so many cups. It’s also good when you’re on tour.
- Sealed plastic bag to put all your passport and important documents.
And that’s it, there’s sure to be more to consider, but this is a star to get you started planning your beach vacation!
