Gold Coast, Australia, is a city full of fun and adventure, and never a boring moment. But one thing most people set aside is the beautiful surrounding areas.

There are many amazing places to visit near the Gold Coast in less than an hour, including Springbrook Mountain, Woolumbin National Park and Mount Tamborine, all of them tropical paradises with amazing walks, adventures, scenery and waterfalls.

We will highlight five main attractions and places to visit near Gold Coast that we can say we have tried ourselves.

Our top five places to visit near Gold Coast

Purling Brook Falls

Set amidst the dense rainforest at the top of Springbrook Mountain, there is the stunning Purling Brook Falls. The Falls is a ponytail waterfall with a huge drop of 106 meters.

The waterfall has two viewpoints, which are accessed at both ends of a 4 km loop ride. The first point is the front view of the giant falls. The view to the outside and around is spectacular and shows the size of the waterfalls. The viewpoint of the second point is located at the top of autumn, where it is a few meters from the same fall. Looking down at the bottom of this huge waterfall.

You can choose to see only the waterfalls, but for the more adventurous, we recommend that you walk along the 4km trail to the bottom of the waterfalls and back. When you reach the foot of the waterfalls, you are sure to understand the size of this waterfall as you contemplate the view. The walk towards him is a bit difficult. But trust us, it’s worth moving forward to get a great view in the fall.

Natural bridge

The natural bridge is located in Springbrook National Park, a naturally shaped rock arch over Cave Creek. The stream came from a waterfall that cut a cave under the waterfall and formed a hole at the top until the two joined and the stream flowed through the cave, leaving an arch at the front.

The cave itself is home to a colony of bright worms and, as such, there are night visits. The great glow of worms makes this a must-see: book it here.

To reach the cave there is a 1.4 km walking track, which is mostly a very manageable walk that will allow you to enjoy fantastic views along the way and also excellent opportunities for photograph yourself.

About 3/4 of the vault is the best photo of the natural bridge. Face where it is an amazing view of the waterfall gushing through the rocks with the sunlight illuminating to illuminate this amazing view. From here you can access the cave to see the waterfall gushing to the max.

The final lookout point is at the top opening in the fall. Here you can see where this wonder has naturally formed and the large volume of water that falls into the cave.

Curtis Falls

Set in the tropical mountain Tamborine is the beautiful waterfall of Curtis Falls and the walking trail of Curtis Falls.

Enter on foot and head straight for a world of tall chewing gum trees, eucalyptus and lush rainforest. The broken trees and the sounds of distant birds allow for a quiet and peaceful visit.

The walk to the waterfalls is a beautiful trail that flows through this lush setting. There are well-kept tracks and handrails for easy crossing.

degree: As mentioned, the track is elevated but not steep, so it fits most people apart from strollers and wheelchairs, as there are parts that involve steps.

You can find platypus, turtles and even the famous East Coast Brush Turkey on this trip. In fact, there are always a lot of turkeys. These birds, also known as turkeys, are common on the west coast of Australia. They are black with a red beak and are only one of three species that inhabit Australia.

After the short 1 km walk you reach the waterfalls. Access to the waterfalls and surrounding rock pools is restricted to protect the landscape, but there is a viewing platform for a wide angle and photography opportunity.

The waterfall seems to have a constant flow. We went for a particularly dry month and as you can see below it was still full of water.

Thunderbird Park

Thunderbird Park is an adventure park and campsite on the famous Tamborine Mountain.

It’s a great place to take the kids and, on the verge of finding out, we also like the adults.

The park is known for its main attraction: the Treetop Challenge. An obstacle course between the trees in a harness with zip lines and a lot of climbing. It can be hard work but very rewarding. Maximum fun for both adults and children.

The park also offers some other activities such as horse riding, mini golf and the “thunderegg” crystal mine. In addition to a large campsite, restaurant and bar.

Mount Warning NSW

Mount Warning is a mountain on the border of Queensland and New South Wales. A medium to challenging hike to the top, with the hardest and steepest at the top reaching the top.

History

A mountain in the Tweed Mountains in the North Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. It formed from a volcanic plug in the now-defunct tweed volcano. The mountain is located 14 kilometers southwest of Murwillumbah, near the border between New South Wales and Queensland. Lieutenant James Cook saw the mountain from the sea and called it Mount Warning.

The path

The hike and the trails themselves aren’t too bad to begin with, as it’s a gradual climb that goes in and out of the rainforest. Reaching the summit and the final 50 meters, however, requires throwing yourself off a stone wall and helping yourself with a chain. It can be a little difficult if you are a little less capable.

degree: If that’s a little too much, there are lookouts along the hike that offer fantastic views and views.

Be sure to bring good quality walking boots, bring plenty of water and snacks. Depending on yourself, the approximate duration of the top and back will be 3 to 5 hours.

These are our top five places to visit near Gold Coast, and to be honest, there are many more. Just over an hour away, you can visit the coastal town of Byron Bay or head inland and see the rural town of Beaudesert. These again, are two contrasting places but very worth a visit.
