Ten hotels join AAA’s prestigious Five Diamond list for 2019, five of which are in Mexico
With the addition of 10 new properties, AAA has unveiled the coveted list of the 2019 Five Diamond Award totaling 121 hotels. This exclusive group represents just 0.4 percent of the more than 27,000 AAA-inspected and approved hotels in all of North America.
After a rigorous evaluation that includes face-to-face inspections, anonymous overnight stays and finally reviewed by a group of experts as an additional step to ensure credibility, 10 hotels have been added as five Diamond honors over the past year. . Of these, half were in Mexico. Mexico now has a total of 24 prestigious Five Diamond Award hotels.
New in the 2019 list for Mexico:
Banyan Tree Mayakoba (Playa del Carmen, Mexico) The unique mix of Asian and Mexican architecture is impressive everywhere. Located on the famous Riviera Maya coast, this gated complex combines unspoilt nature with a well-kept ecosystem.
Montage Los Cabos (Cabo San Lucas, Mexico) This luxury property features several infinity pools that combine with the ocean and overlook the secluded beach. The impressive guest bathrooms have indoor and outdoor showers.
NIZUC Resort & Spa (Cancun, Mexico) This beautiful and spacious resort features rustic and elegant Mayan-inspired décor. Rooms are spacious and feature lots of bespoke furniture and luxurious elements.
Rosewood San Miguel de Allende (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico) This colonial-style estate has magnificent public areas and manicured gardens. Rooms are spacious and feature refined colonial décor with a fireplace and terrace.
The St. Regis Mexico City (Mexico City, Mexico) This bright hotel tower offers spacious rooms with high-tech amenities and a butler. The views are breathtaking, with many iconic symbols of Mexico.

Many of this year’s new Five Diamond honorees have received top ratings in the past for their physical attributes that, while impressive, weren’t accustomed to AAA’s exceptionally high five Diamond service expectations so far. . After demonstrating notable service improvements for those in Mexico, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, NIZUC Resort & Spa, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende and The St. Regis Mexico City, received for the first time the coveted fifth Diamond.
Others, such as Montage Los Cabos, achieved the AAA Five Diamond rating shortly after opening in the last twelve months.
