    The reef of Puerto Morelos is part of the reef barrier called “Great Belt of reefs of the western Atlantic, Better known as the Great Mayan Reef, considered the second largest barrier reef in the world. OM February 2, 1998, By official decree, It is declared a protected natural area, and it is recognized as a reef national park in Puerto Morelos.     Puerto Morelos is a typical Mexican fishing village, located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It is world famous for its coral which is listed as the second most extensive of the entire planet. In 1998 was declared a Natural Protected Area. One of the great attractions for divers is the C-56 shipwreck, it served in World War II. In 1966 it was sold to the Mexican Marine, the time pass by and later on 28th Oct 2000 was purposefully sunk, as a new attraction for divers coming to the Riviera Maya.
