Although it originated as a small settlement in the early days, it was not until the late postclassic period (1200 &#8211; 1550 AD) that it reached its most important stage of growth.  According to investigations, it is believed that El Rey, along with nearby San Miguelito, formed the central area of \u200b\u200ba settlement dedicated to maritime trade and fishing activities.  It only takes a 15 to 20 minutes to reach this archeological site. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The interventions carried out on the site have today made it possible to visit many of the lined structures along the main road and its two small squares.  The most important building is a pyramidal base with a temple, in which at least two stages of construction can be observed.  Also of interest are buildings 1 and 4, which are palaces with large galleries with colonnades supporting the flat roofs;  by their dimensions, they seem administrative constructions, in which meetings between the leading groups were arranged. In September 1988, the small Museum suspended its activities due to the serious damage caused to the building by the onslaught of Hurricane Gilberto, reopening its doors to the public in July 1994.
