Covid-19 Updates

Last month, the government of Quintana Roo declared that masks are no longer mandatory in outdoor and indoor spaces. However, they are required to be carried within Cancun Airport and on all flights. The regulations for Covid-19 they have changed since the beginning of the year, but it looks like they will stay that way for the rest of the year. No vaccine cards, negative covid test results or recovery letters are required to enter the country. Only major changes in the number of people infected in the state can change this. We encourage you to call your airline for more information. Remember that airlines have their own regulations and are up to date with what airports require.

Keep in mind that you may need your vaccine card or a negative covid test for your return trip. The United States and other countries still require it to re-enter. Most request a negative test result within 24 hours of leaving Mexico or a valid virus recovery test. For your convenience, many hotels and resorts offer on-site testing. Cancun Airport has mobile units so you can test at each terminal if needed. We recommend that you check the requirements of the country you are returning to before arriving at Cancun Airport. These mobile units may be very busy and may delay your flight.

Hurricane season

Worried about hurricane season? From June to November, Cancun is prone to rainy days. Especially from August to October, storms are more likely to occur. That doesn’t mean you have to cancel your vacation in any way! But beware, these 3 months, August, September and October, are likely to have some rainy days but the weather in general is ideal for outdoor and indoor activities. So don’t unpack your swimsuit yet, the beaches are still beautiful and nice. Keep in mind that June, July and August are the peak tourist season, so Cancun is a bit crowded.

As we mentioned before, a hurricane is very unlikely to come. If you are worried about hurricane season, you should know that October is the most likely time of year for hurricanes in the area. So stay calm if you plan to travel at any other time of the year. If you are in Cancun during a storm or even a hurricane, the authorities will tell you how to act accordingly. Keep up to date with weather changes if you plan to travel during this time of year. Now more on that here.

Improvement of queues

The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, promised a considerable reduction in waiting time in the queues and has succeeded. By reinforcing staff, tourists no longer have to wait in line for security checks. This is good news for everyone, especially if you visit Cancun Airport during this summer season.

Marqués said that in recent months, more than 3 million passengers have boarded Cancun airport, making it one of the busiest times of the “post-Covid” era. That is, in early 2022, when Terminal 2 arrived, tourists were expected to wait about 60 minutes, as opposed to the 90 minutes they had to wait before. In March and April of this year the waiting time was reduced, which allowed visitors to have a much smoother experience. Now more on that here.
