From January to June 2022, 10 million 266 thousand international tourists arrived in Mexico by air. This represents an 83% increase compared to 2021, said Tourism Secretary Miguel Torruco Marqués.
It indicated that the main countries with international tourist arrivals by air in Mexico during the first six months of 2022 were the United States, Canada and Colombia, with 7 million 932 thousand tourists. This is 71.6% more than in 2021 and also exceeds by 8.4% the 7 million 314 thousand tourists in 2019.
The average expenditure of international tourists in the January-June period it was $742.7, which is 39.1% more than last year and 34% more than the $540.8 recorded in the first half of 2019.
Regarding the arrival of tourists, Mexican destinations attracted 17.9 million travelers, a figure 18.4% below the first six months of 2019.

While in other nations such as France, Germany, Italy and the United States, the recovery of tourist expenditure is between 70 and 85% compared to 2019. Mexico and twenty countries, including Moldova, Serbia, Romania, Portugal, Croatia, El Salvador and Turkey, among others, are above pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.
